Born in the Netherlands in 1953, Paula Bastiaansen graduated from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Fine Arts and has been exploring the transformation of bone china into art ceramics ever since. While still at the Royal College of Art, Paula began experimenting with the infinite possibilities of clay and became extremely comfortable with manipulating this difficult material. She thinks "thinness, lightness, transparency, rhythm" have always been her themes, and that she has a strong sense of rhythm, the tension of waves, the trajectory of a tornado, all of which draw her to explore and create her own satisfying works in clay, a highly creative material.
