Burmese artist Soe Yu New's cross-cultural experiences have inspired her to reflect on identity through her work. She creates hybrid creatures that are fluid, fragile and fragmented. Through poetic depictions of nature and the body and morphing emotional landscapes, she explores the concept of displacement, the history of her family's migration from Yunnan, China, and the complexities of personal identity.
Soe Yu was named to Forbes' 2019 30 Under 30 Art & Style list. Her work has been acquired by QAGOMA in Australia and the British Museum in the United Kingdom.
