Born in 1979 in Cuenca, Ecuador, Tomás Carpio is a visual artist who stands out in the art world for his dedication to ceramics and creative expression. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Cuenca from 2000-2005 and Ceramics and Design at the University of the Basque Country from 2005-2006. For more than 20 years he has been immersed in the world of ceramics, constantly exploring new artistic territories and sharing his creative expression and passion. His work has been shown in numerous solo and collective exhibitions, making him a model of contemporary ceramics in Spain. His unique and definitive style is characterized by the creation of countless fantastical creatures, each piece becoming part of a personal bestiary. Through his sculptures he creates new symbols rooted in the Andean and indigenous cultures of Ecuador. These creatures live outside the material realm, always present in the collective consciousness. They never disappear, constantly mutating and combining into new images. This has always been an important and indispensable tool in his creations, offering infinite possibilities.
